Hello Dizzy and Everyone,

I've been trying to draw my own Anime characters and I need some tips and help. Can anyone offer good/solid help? I am looking for CG style. I am an advanced user in Adobe Photoshop. The thing is I can't find a good tut on how to create Anime characters and backgrounds. This is the only place I am a member of a Hentai/Anime forum. I've googled many times without success, mainly basic tuts that do not help...

I have my CS degree, and I have been designing PC game. My characters are not well drawn, that is the problem...

Maybe this should go in the lounge as it is an on-going question/discussion.

I will move it for you.

You are probably more advanced than I am in all this, I only dapple in it for fun. The best advice I can give is practice practice practice and practice.

You can check out YouTube I'm sure there are at least a few tutorials on there that can point you in the right direction. Try checking out your local book stores and libraries, especially if you have access to a university library they might have some handy books. Then if you want to spend some real cash you can always study this in school.

I myself prefer the subtleties of hand drawn works and I know that the book stores have plenty on this as I have spent several hundred dollars on books about drawing anime and manga, so it's worth a try.

Also I think if you can understand how to draw anime by hand and you have studied computer graphics then you should be able to intigrate the two and create your own style of anime inspired characters (as we all know it's not truly anime unless it's produced in Japan but that's another topic entirely)

Good Luck

Oh and remember in there is a place to exhibit your work in the boudoir, here on this site, I would love to see some of your characters. Maybe I and others on the site can help you out with some constructive critisms, this also could help you to fix any flaws in your designs.

I'dbe interested in the colouring tutorial. I find the drawing part the easier of the two...colouring adds so much and makes the image come to life...at least for me. Thanks!

There are some great books out there on how to draw anime but really just practice like mad and observe the lines when you watch it, even pause and recreate your fav scenes or characters. I find that's a great way to develop your skills and if you can find your own style, start creating original works from your imagination.

Some say I do although I think all my work is shit and I usually destroy it when I'm finished with it, rather than let others see it. I keep hearing that art is subjective and so I can't really say whether I have talent or not. I went a very long time without drawing and I have noticed my "skills" aren't what they used to be. Unfortunately I don't have the same amount of time to spend practicing as when I was younger. I mostly do it for fun, when I can. I am also trying to learn how to use my computer to draw, mainly in Photoshop. Most of the time I feel overwhelmed and I get bummed out when I think of all the awesome work out there. But I have always been overly critical of anything I do, something DeathMarine wishes I would stop doing.

Dizzy's art is really good but she always thinks it's awful. No matter much i try to convince her she never believes me.

Like you mentioned, post your work here, don't be shy, all of us has had our moments where we think all our work sucks, I am positive that almost if not everyone will like it. Just give it a shot!

yeah
I keep meaning too but to be honest I haven't done anything in ages, at least nothing I finished. maybe if I ever get around to finishing anything, I'll try my best to share it with you all. I am far less concerned about what people think than before but I still don't even come close to meeting the skill level I think is acceptable and it's super frustrating that I just don't seem as skilled as before. Who knows maybe I will take the time away from the sites so I can seriously draw again.

Use some reference pictures to have an idea of what to do and try to duplicate the image (I always used to use references and they didn't come out bad).
